Former U.S. Department of Energy Official and Senior Advisor to U.S. Senator Paul Coverdell Joins McKenna Long & Aldridge LLP

Washington, DC  -- Alex McGee, a former U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) official and senior advisor to U.S. Senator Paul Coverdell (R-GA), is joining McKenna Long & Aldridge LLP (MLA) as a Managing Director in the firm's nationally-ranked Federal Government Affairs department.  He brings more than 15 years of public and private sector public policy experience to the firm and will assist clients with navigating political and regulatory hurdles to advance their business interests. 

"I've known and worked with Alex for a number of years beginning with his first position with Senator Coverdell," said Eric Tanenblatt, head of the National Government Affairs practice at MLA. "His considerable insight in addressing the challenges and opportunities presented by working with federal, state and local governments will be of great strategic value to our clients across the U.S." 

Before joining MLA, McGee was the Director of Federal Affairs for Koch Companies Public Sector (KCPS), the policy and advocacy arm of one of the world's largest private companies, Koch Industries.  Based in their Washington, DC office, McGee directed the federal government affairs agenda for the international company which included advocacy on a broad portfolio of issues including energy, manufacturing, financial services and consumer products. 

Previously, McGee served as the DOE's Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Congressional and Intergovernmental Affairs.  He engaged Members of Congress on behalf of DOE Energy Secretaries Spencer Abraham and Samuel Bodman in a comprehensive energy policy dialogue.  During his five-year tenure at the agency, he worked with elected officials in discussions related to renewable energy, energy conservation, electricity, oil, gas, science and nuclear waste issues.  McGee was also a strategic player in the passage of the Energy Policy Act of 2005.

McGee began his career in government working for Senator Coverdell. He was with the Senator for seven years in a number of positions in Georgia and Washington, DC.  McGee holds a B.A. from Hampden-Sydney College.
