Atlanta, Ga. -- Carlton Fields is pleased to announce that Atlanta Of Counsel, Nestor J. Rivera, was reappointed to a third term as co-chair of the Health Law Litigation Committee of the American Bar Association's (ABA) Section of Litigation. Additionally, Rivera was appointed to the ABA's Special Committee on Bioethics and the Law. Both appointments are one-year terms.
The Health Law Litigation Committee focuses its work in the areas of litigation affecting the healthcare industry, including credentialing and licensing, fraud and abuse, patient privacy and data security, electronic discovery, managed care, professional negligence, and several others.
The Special Committee on Bioethics and the Law comprises four At-Large members and representatives of 16 associations who are deeply involved in the field of bioethics and are considered experts in the nexus of bioethics and the law. The Committee disseminates information on ABA bioethics programs and activities and related undertakings by outside bioethics organizations, serving as an ABA information clearinghouse on bioethics topics.
Rivera's reappointment to the Health Law Litigation leadership position recognizes him as one of the nation's leading litigators in his field. The ABA recognizes and utilizes his expertise and experience in this leadership capacity as they build on the Section's continuing effort to put committee chairs in the position to lead the Section's efforts to respond quickly to the hottest issues facing members and the legal profession.
Rivera advises health care providers of all sizes on operations and regulatory matters, including: HIPAA and related federal and state privacy laws, peer review and credentialing, EMTALA, health care provider reimbursement and insurance coverage, contract negotiation and implementation, debt collection and credit reporting requirements, and other issues encountered by health care providers on a daily basis. He represents health care providers and non-health care entities in litigation matters involving breach of contract, business torts, and other business claims. Rivera received his J.D. from Emory University School of Law and his B.B.A., with honors, from the University of Miami.
