Aflac is a general business holding company and acts as a management company that primarily sells supplemental health and life insurance in the United States and Japan. The company is scheduled to report its fourth quarter earnings on Tuesday, January 31, 2012.

Expectations: The consensus estimate for the company's earnings is $1.52 per share, up 14.3% from a year ago when AFLAC Incorporated reported earnings of $1.33 per share. The consensus estimate is has risen from three months ago when it was $1.50. It hasn't been adjusted since. For the fiscal year, analysts are projecting earnings of $6.37 per share. The company's revenue is expected to beat the year-earlier total of $5.29 billion by 14.5% to finish at $6.06 billion for the quarter. The company is projected to report revenue of $23.24 billion for the fiscal year.

Performance: Revenue has climbed for four consecutive quarters. Revenue rose 11% to $5.99 billion in the third quarter. Looking back further, revenue increased 2.2% year-over-year in the second quarter, 1% in the first quarter, and 15.2% in the fourth quarter of the last fiscal year. For two quarters prior, the figure dropped 51.8% in the second quarter and 37.9% in the first quarter. Over the past quarter, the stock price has risen to $49.16 from $46.40 on October 28, 2011. AFLAC Incorporated's worst recent stretch was when its stock price fell $5.49 per share between November 11, 2011 and November 25, 2011.

Ratings: Analysts are supportive of the stock, with 66.7% rating it a buy. The company's nearest 10 competitors only average 49% buys. This marks an improvement, as the number of buy ratings has risen slightly over the past three months.
