Mitch Harrison, Longtime COO, Becomes CEO and President; Founder Rob Johnston Named Chairman

First Communities Management (FCM), a leading Atlanta-based third-party multifamily management company, has announced founder Rob Johnston will transition into the role of chairman of FCM. Mitch Harrison, the current chief operating officer, will become CEO and president.

Mitch Harrison joined FCM in 2004 and held numerous roles before being named chief operating officer in 2011. Harrison has been active in expanding FCM’s presence throughout the Sun Belt and Mid-Atlantic Regions. FCM manages properties across the region and its portfolio is diverse — with Class A and Class B properties in both suburban and urban locations and assets owned by both small and institutional owners. Harrison is a former chairman of the Atlanta Apartment Association and current board member. He is philanthropically active in the Atlanta community and currently sits on the board of the Atlanta Community Food Bank.

“Mitch Harrison has been a great embodiment of First Communities’ core principles of excellence and I look forward to his leadership in this next phase of the company,” said Johnston. “This is a very natural and positive progression for me and I’m looking forward to my new role as Chairman.”

Johnston founded FCM in 1978 and now manages more than 30,000 units. Johnston also has held a variety of industry and community leadership roles. He founded the nation’s largest food drive in partnership with the Atlanta Apartment Association and the Atlanta Community Food Bank.

“It’s been such a great experience working with Rob for the last 12 years, and I am grateful he will continue in a day-to-day role at FCM,” Harrison said. “His stellar reputation in the industry is well-deserved. He has built great relationships, anchored by trust and integrity.”
