AARP is Bringing its Smart DriverTEK Workshop to Atlanta on December 21

12/15/16

AARP, in a partnership with The Hartford, will be hosting its Smart DriverTEK Workshops this Wednesday, December 21 at the Allen Temple AME Church at 11:00 a.m. and 12:45 p.m.

The Smart DriverTEK workshop, a new educational program by AARP Smart Driver, is an education course developed to help older drivers extend their years on the road through learning about the ever-evolving technologies in cars. The workshop will feature a trained instructor working to help drivers understand how to use current and progressing vehicle safety technologies. The workshop will also help drivers recognize how these technologies may enhance their driving safety so they can choose the features that best suit their needs while car shopping.

“With the changes in vehicle technology over the last five years, it’s critical for drivers to stay up-to-date and informed,” said Kyle Rakow, vice president and national director, AARP Driver Safety. “Our goal is to provide Atlanta residents with the education and resources they need to become safer drivers.”

The Smart DriverTEK program was developed following a recent study conducted by The Hartford and MIT AgeLab on drivers 50 and older and their preferences around vehicle safety technologies. The survey revealed that 76 percent of drivers age 50 and older who plan to buy a new car in the next two years will actively seek high-tech safety features, which is a 32 percent increase on last year.
