Hambidge Creative HiVE Officially Opens to The Public at Colony Square

WHAT: The Hambidge Creative HiVE at Colony Square officially opened to the public this week and will be available for guest viewings through June 3. The Creative HiVE will function as an enclave of experimental works-in-progress, workshops and performances for 12 selected artists.

As part of opening week for the Creative HiVE, Ahsan Bari + Sounds of Kolachi will be playing a few sets in The Atrium on Wed., April 5 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. as a special performance for the Creative HiVE program. The band, hailing from Pakistan, is a 10 –piece super group of vocalists and instrumentalists from Karachi that blurs raga and Western harmony, counterpoint and South Asian melodic lines, without losing the groove. This presentation, part of Center Stage, isa special stop on the band’s U.S. debut tour and will be a treat for the Midtown community.

Many events for the Creative HiVE have already been scheduled, but the public workshops and performance times will be decided by the HiVE artists. Over the next two months, the installations will be ever-evolving and guests are encouraged to visit the spaces throughout the course of the activations at Colony Square.

WHEN: Installations open to public on April 1 through May 27: Several artist workshops/demonstrations as well as open house receptions are offered in The Plaza at Colony Square and/or indoor atrium.

Ahsan Bari + Sounds of Kolachi Performance on April 5 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.: Prominent Pakistani band Ahsan Bari + Sounds of Kolachi will be performing in The Atrium. Come experience the debut of their U.S. Tour as they make a stop in Atlanta for a special performance for the Hambidge program, #HambidgeHiVECS. The presentation is part of Center Stage, a public diplomacy initiative of the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, administered by the New England Foundation for the Arts in cooperation with the U.S. Regional Arts Organizations, with support from the Doris Duke Foundation for Islamic Art.

Hambidge Art Auction + Performance Gala on April 29 from 7 to 11 p.m.: This is a ticketed event featuring an intermingling of art, food and performance. Artwork from 200 emerging and established artists from across the region will be up for bidding; Jason Hackenwerth will construct an immense floating structure; plus, an opportunity to explore the Hambidge Creative HiVE. Closing Celebration of HiVE Projects on June 3 – The Hambidge Center will host a dance party that will include the popping of Jason Hackenwerth’s balloon sculpture held in the atrium to celebrate the closing out of the projects.

Colony Square is easily accessible via the Arts Center MARTA station, and deck parking is available on 14th Street.
