Fish & Richardson Receives Top “Band 1” National Rankings for Intellectual Property and ITC Practices in Chambers USA 2017

7/25/17

Fish & Richardson has received top “Band 1” national rankings for its Intellectual Property (IP) practice and its International Trade Commission (ITC) patent litigation practice in the 2017 edition of Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business. Fish also received a top ranking for its regional IP practice in Georgia. In addition, 11 Fish attorneys – including Atlanta managing principal Thad Kodish and principal Christopher Green – were selected as IP leaders.

According to Chambers, the team in Georgia is known for “its courtroom experience and strength defending against patent infringement allegations” and is “additionally noted for assisting with patent invalidation actions and for offering advice on prosecution proceedings.” Fish’s team was also described as “responsive and efficient.”

Kodish was highlighted for his experience handling patent litigation, trademark and trade secrets matters. According to one source, “he is extremely intelligent and he gets the best results for clients that he possibly can.” Green “is noted for his handling of disputes involving hi-tech and mechanical patents. He also provides adept representation for PTAB post-grant reviews and advises on patent prosecution.”

The Chambers research team conducted in-depth interviews with thousands of clients and lawyers across the country. An elite “Band 1” ranking means that Fish and its attorneys stood out for their practice strength, legal knowledge and experience, ability, effectiveness, quality of recent work, and client service.

Fish’s global IP practice provides strategic counseling, litigation, and prosecution for clients ranging from start-ups to multinational corporations to world-renowned academic and research institutions. Fish’s world-class ITC team includes 21 principals who have led hundreds of ITC patent cases, many of which have helped define IP law at the ITC and beyond. In 2016, Fish handled 11 ITC cases, which represents 20% of all active cases at this forum, making Fish the busiest national firm practicing at the ITC.

Chambers is considered to be the most reputable legal directory in the world because inclusion is based solely on the findings of its research team. The rankings data is culled from in-depth interviews with clients and lawyers across the country. Ranking criteria include technical legal ability, professional conduct, client service, commercial astuteness, diligence, commitment, and other qualities most valued by the client. Law firms and individual lawyers are ranked in bands from 1-6, with 1 being the best.
