Tech Timeline of Georgia Being Updated for First Time Since 2003

9/21/17

Since the mid-1900s, Georgia’s technology scene has grown exponentially and now features companies ranging from startups to Fortune 500s. The Technology Timeline of Georgia was first created in 2003, and after 14 years, the time has come for a serious update.

A group of technology leaders from companies and organizations including Arketi Group, Bennett Thrasher, Carabiner Communications, CRESA, Computer Museum of America, Fulcrum Equity Partners, Morris Manning and Martin, Metro Atlanta Chamber, Technology Association of Georgia, Trinet, Square 1 Bank and Venture Atlanta have come together to collect the technology history of Georgia and compile it into one updated timeline.

During Venture Atlanta, the group will be collecting submissions for the timeline and showcasing the work in progress. In addition, the Computer Museum of America will be displaying Georgia-specific technology artifacts.

“Leading up to and during Venture Atlanta, we will be collecting information for the timeline from as many technology companies as possible,” said Mike Neumeier, principal at Arketi Group. “We’ve made online submission beyond easy, it takes less than 30 seconds to ensure any technology company that’s made a mark on our state can be included in this initiative.”

Submitting the timeline form is easy to complete and can be accessed here. After taking the survey, we encourage those submitting to share the link on LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook using the hashtag #TechTimelineGA.

“Recording the history of the technology community in Georgia is important because in just a few decades we have become one of the top five most relevant technology ecosystems in the U.S.,” said John Yates partner-in-charge of the Technology Practice at Morris, Manning and Martin. “Leading the technology scene in FinTech, cyber security, health IT, supply chain and marketing technology has ensured our state’s place in tech history, now we just want to capture it.”

Companies submitting their information online for the timeline prior to Oct. 3 will be included in this initial preview which will occur at the Venture Atlanta investor dinner and then again during Venture Atlanta which is taking place at the College Football Hall of Fame on Oct. 11 and 12. This annual conference of tech leaders will include closing remarks from Mark Cuban of Shark Tank fame. More details, including registration information can be found here.
