9/26/17

JOHNS CREEK, Ga., Sept. 25, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Saia, Inc. (NASDAQ:SAIA) announced that Saia LTL Freight will be opening its latest terminal in Laurel, Md. on Oct. 16. This is the fifth facility the company will have opened in the Northeastern market in the last six months. Saia also plans to open a sixth terminal in Allentown, Pa. by the end of the year.

"Providing quality service for our customers is a top priority at Saia. This newest opening is a continuation of that commitment,” stated Chief Customer Officer Ray Ramu. "Management and sales staffing is complete and we are excited that we will soon be providing pickup and delivery service in this new market."

Saia's expansion is part of a multi-year plan that will provide the carrier the opportunity to serve both existing and new customers in its growing network. The company is in varying stages of completion with respect to securing real estate and planning for four to five additional facility openings in the Northeast next year.

“In conjunction with our entrance into Maryland, we’ll also begin offering direct service to the greater New York City and Long Island markets,” explained Ramu. “Since May, customers have responded well to our Northeastern service offering and our new terminal in Laurel will expand our reach and service capabilities further.”

Saia reported its second quarter financial results with revenues of $317 million, a 9.4 percent increase, over the same time period last year. Less-than-truckload shipments and tonnage rose 3.5 and 2.0 percent, respectively, year-over-year. Today, the company is ranked as the ninth largest less-than-truckload carrier in the United States.
