Atlanta Apartment Association and Atlanta Community Food Bank Celebrate Food-A-Thon and 100 Million Meals

10/20/17

The Atlanta Apartment Association’s (AAA) Annual Food-A-Thon, one of the nation’s largest food drives, raised enough food items and money this year to provide 7.3 million meals to hungry families in metro Atlanta and north Georgia. Now in its 30th year, AAA celebrates its longstanding partnership with the Atlanta Community Food Bank and the donations gathered over the years providing over 100 million meals for the hungry.

“We’re absolutely delighted to have partnered with our members and residents all over Atlanta to deliver 7.3 million meals this year to the Food Bank,” said Christie Eash, 2017 chair of AAA and senior vice president of AMLI Residential. “As we celebrate today, we’re thankful for our members and our partners at the Food Bank who share our mission to fight hunger and give back to our neighbors.”

During the Food-A-Thon, AAA members competitively collect food items and money throughout their apartment communities for donation to the Atlanta Community Food Bank. The Food-A-Thon donation drive kicked off on June 14 and concluded on Oct. 20 with a colorful parade. This year’s theme was “Team Up Against Hunger!” and members paraded in sports-themed costumes to deliver their food and money donations to the Food Bank’s headquarters in Atlanta.

Founded in 1979, the Atlanta Community Food Bank procures enough food to provide nearly 59 million meals each year and distributes it to more than 600 nonprofit partner agencies serving families and individuals in 29 metro Atlanta and north Georgia counties.

About the Atlanta Community Food Bank

The Atlanta Community Food Bank works to end hunger with the food, people and big ideas needed to ensure our neighbors have the nourishment to lead healthy and productive lives. Far too many people in our own community experience hunger every day, including children, seniors and working families.

Through more than 600 nonprofit partners, we help more than 755,000 people get healthy food every year. Our goal is that, by 2025, all hungry people across metro Atlanta and North Georgia will have access to the nutritious meals they need when they need them. It takes the power of our whole community to make that possible. Join us at ACFB.org.
