Taylor English Duma LLP is pleased to announce that Allen W. Nelson has joined the firm as a partner in the Corporate Practice Group. Nelson previously served in-house as Executive Vice President: General Counsel, Corporate Secretary and Chief Administrative Officer at Crawford & Company (NYSE: CRD.A and CRD.B).

During his time with Crawford, Nelson led the global legal function of the world’s largest independent claims administration firm. He advised Crawford’s Board and senior management on a wide variety of legal and business matters ranging from mergers and acquisitions (both domestic and international); board committee work and governance; public company disclosure and listing compliance; regulatory and government negotiations; internal investigations; litigation; commercial contracts; compliance and ethics; employment law; executive compensation; and other areas. At various times during his tenure, he was also accountable for human resources; internal audit; corporate communications; the compliance and ethics program; and corporate real estate.
Nelson also previously served as Chief Compliance Counsel at BellSouth Corporation. Additionally, he managed legal matters for the company’s political activities and worked extensively in international arbitration, litigation, traditional labor and employment matters as well as intellectual property issues, risk management and transactions.
Nelson is heavily involved in his community and has received several recognitions for his work. He received the 2013 Revolutions Award for Outstanding Nonprofit Board Leader, presented by the Georgia Center for Nonprofits for his work as chairman of the Atlanta Ballet, which he has chaired for eight years. Nelson has also been recognized as a “Point of Light” by former President George H. W. Bush and the Point of Light Foundation. He is also a member of the Board of Trustees of the Woodruff Arts Center, among other boards.
Nelson earned his bachelor’s and law degrees from Duke University. He was recognized as a J.R. Parkinson Memorial Scholar at Duke University School of Law. Nelson continues to serve his alma mater by teaching a course at the law school that focuses on a wide variety of aspects of in-house practice. Nelson recently received the “Forever Duke Award” in recognition of his volunteer work for Duke.
