Senior Connections Welcomes New Board and Staff Members

Local Talent Brings Broad Experience to Nonprofit Agency

ATLANTA (July 29, 2010) Today, Debra Furtado, CEO of Senior Connections, the nonprofit agency that provides Meals on Wheels, home repair, in-home care and neighborhood centers to area seniors (www.seniorconnectionsatl.org), announced several leadership changes within the organization. She also welcomed Senior Connections' new board chair, Kimberly Cooks, and four new board members.

Cooks was installed as Chair of the Board of Directors at the annual board meeting in June. A board member since 2007, Cooks, AVP, Global Service Assurance, AT&T, will serve a two-year term as chair. Also voted onto the board at the June meeting were Dr. Missy Cody, Associate Professor Emeritas, Georgia State University; Sadie Dennard, Assistant to Region Manager, Georgia Power; Cheryl Hill, Senior Consultant, Draper & Associates; and Deirdra Stewart, Manager, Communications and Marketing, Kilpatrick Stockton LLP.

In addition, Sally Eggleston joined the nonprofit organization as Chief Marketing Officer on July 1. Most recently, Ms. Eggleston served as director, corporate communications for AGL Resources, and brings two decades of marketing, public relations and corporate communications to Senior Connections.

"Having previously worked with Sally at AGL Resources, I knew she was exactly what we needed to ramp up our marketing efforts this year," said Furtado. "We are seeking to grow our three major programs in: home delivered meals, in-home care and home repair. Getting our message out throughout metro Atlanta is critical, especially since we're delivering meals and other services throughout the metro Atlanta area and as far south as Macon."

Also on July 1, Kathleen Head joined as Director of Fundraising She is a recent graduate of the University of Georgia, and worked in the Development Departments at both UGA and Wesleyan College in Macon, Georgia. Tiffany Archibald-Hooks was recently named Director of Intake/In Home Care. She previously served as manager of the organization's DeKalb-Atlanta Neighborhood Center. In May, Tara Bauer joined the staff as Director of Food Service. She works with Senior Connections' fulltime nutritionists and dieticians to make sure that the food prepared is nutritious and delicious.

Noted Furtado: "Tara's background is in the hospitality industry and high-end restaurant retailing. She is proving that it is possible to create fresh, great tasting, nutritional food no matter how large the quantity. Currently, our kitchen prepares more than 2,500 meals daily for home and congregate delivery, using more and more locally grown fresh produce."

"I am very pleased with our leadership team," smiled Furtado. "They are all great people who want to serve seniors in metro Atlanta."
